I want to expand both my and my students’ global competence and understand, but how do I get abroad on a professional development program that is paid for?
NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellowship – This is an exceptional, year-long, professional development opportunity that culminates in a trip abroad. Read more about my experience as a Global Learning Fellow it on my blog here.
Global Exploration for Educators Organization (GEEO) – This non-profit’s entire goal is to get teachers abroad on professional development experiences!
IREX – A global development and education organization.
Fund for Teachers – Apply for a grant to finance your global learning experience.
Qatar Foundation International (QFI) – The Qater Foundation provides professional and curriculum development for teachers to learn about Arab nations and cultures, some of which include travel.
U.S. Department of Education – Multiple types of Fulbright teaching grants/programs available!
The resources above are the ones I am the most familiar with, but there are great blogs out there specifically about getting teachers traveling! Here are a few:
Teaching Traveling – A blog by a teacher, for teachers who want to travel.
Edutopia – A blog post about travel grants and fellowships for educators.
NEA Member Benefits – A post about travel grants and fellowships for educators.
